For months, the gun lobby has peddled the same tired argument that conducting background checks for all gun sales would be “inconvenient.” But under the background checks bill being considered by the Senate (S. 374), if you want to sell a gun, you can simply meet your buyer at a local gun store and the store will conduct the background check.

So, how easy is it to find a gun store?

There are 58,344 federally licensed gun dealers in the United States1 — that’s nearly twice as many gun dealers as there are post offices.
