St. Louis Rams Celebrate 2013 Green Week Festivities begin tomorrow!
Since their participation in the NFL’s first carbon-neutral game in 2005, the St. Louis Rams have made the league’s green initiative a vital part of their organization. This year, the team has taken further measures to reduce their carbon footprint and increase environmental awareness in the St. Louis community.
In an effort to highlight the importance of environmental sustainability, the Rams will kick off their Fourth Annual Green Week, highlighting a variety of environmentally-focused activities. The week will conclude with the Green Game, when the Rams will host the Chicago Bears on Sunday, November 24, presented by Meridian Waste, Ameren Missouri, Monsanto, Metro Lighting, Buildingstars, Microgrid Solar and Metro Transit-St. Louis.
As part of the Green Game, the Rams have offset 100% of the electricity used at the Edward Jones Dome for the game using Missouri wind energy credits from Ameren Missouri Pure Power. Along with the electricity, the Rams have also offset all carbon offsets from fan travel to and from the Edward Jones Dome as well as Chicago Bears’ flight in and out of the city.
In addition to the game, the organization has taken significant steps to make the green staple a reality out at their practice facility in Earth City, Missouri. Teaming up with Microgrid Solar, the Rams are in the process of installing new solar panels on the roof of Rams Park. The Rams have also committed to offsetting 25% of the electricity used at the facility, an increase from 6% in past years.
Join the St. Louis Rams organization at the various events occurring throughout their Green Week.
2013 Green Week activities include:

Sunday, November 24: Green Game

The Green Expo will feature products and services from many of St. Louis’ green-minded companies. The Bud Light Tailgate Party begins at 10 a.m. Following the Bud Light Tailgate Party, fans can cheer on the Rams against the Chicago Bears beginning at noon.
The NFL’s St. Louis Rams are dedicated to providing St. Louis the most entertaining sports experience possible while striving to conduct itself in an environmentally sustainable and socially responsible manner. The Rams Green Platform was formed in December 2007 to serve as an umbrella for all new and existing initiatives supporting our environmental sustainability efforts.
The St. Louis Rams are greening our operations, from recycling and waste reduction to energy efficiency and the use of recycled materials. Since our participation in the NFL’s first carbon neutral game in 2005 against the Philadelphia Eagles, we have been committed to establishing and growing our Green Platform with the intention of identifying authentic opportunities to reduce our carbon footprint.
We currently facilitate and promote single-stream recycling during all Rams home games on our Concourse and Terrace levels, in all of our suites, in the Bud Light Party Zone and at additional key points of entry/exit. In 2008, we began printing our game tickets on recycled paper stock. In 2012, we offset 100% of the electricity used during all of our home games at the Edward Jones Dome.
Similar to our success at the Edward Jones Dome, we have implemented a recycling program at Rams Park, home of the St. Louis Rams. We have encouraged our staff to recycle paper and plastic by offering personal receptacles for office/cubicle use.
In 2009, the Rams became the first team in the NFL to print our Media Guide on 100% post-consumer waste paper. The Media Guide was printed with soy ink, made from environmentally friendly soy beans. The guide was certified with the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council), an independent, non-governmental, not-for-profit organization established to promote the responsible management of the world’s forests. The Media Guide was also reduced by more than 250 pages and additional information was placed on the Rams website.
In 2010, the Rams furthered our commitment to enhance our Green Platform in many different ways. The Rams completely eliminated our Media Guides this year, instead handing out flash drives to the media with all applicable information. We are committed to reducing our energy and waste throughout the season and are Pure Power Gold Certified through Ameren Missouri Pure Power. This means that we will help prevent the release of approximately 342,000 pounds of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere, which is equal to taking 30 cars off the road for a year.
The Rams will host our fourth annual Green Game on November 24, 2013 against the Chicago Bears. As a part of this game, we will offset 100% of the electricity used at the Edward Jones Dome. We will also offset Chicago Bears team travel to and from St. Louis and fan travel to and from the Edward Jones Dome using carbon offsets. We will highlight the importance of sustainability throughout the game with a Green Expo in Baer Park prior to the game and in-game features throughout. We will feature a series of events throughout the week leading up to the Green Game. Check back for more information!
The Rams are looking for proactive, friendly volunteers from local colleges, high schools, community organizations, church groups – even friends and families – to join the Rams Green Team presented by Ameren Missouri, Metro Lighting, Meridian Waste, Microgrid, Metro & Monsanto, and help collect recyclables from fans during all 2013 home games. The selected volunteers will receive a Rams Green Team t-shirt and free admission to that game. To sign up to take part in the Rams recycling efforts, please e-mail email@example.com with your name, e-mail address, age (if under 18) and which game(s) you would like to volunteer. We look forward to seeing the Rams Green Team in the stands this season!
All members of the Rams Green Team will receive special e-mails highlighting different Rams Green efforts. Each member will also receive the opportunity to attend a season ending Green Gala at Rams Park.
