We are asking you to support the repeal of the Louisiana Science Education Act. This law allows for the teaching of creationism in public school science classrooms.
Teaching creationism in public schools is unconstitutional. It inaccurately teaches our students about the nature of science and the course of evolution. This form of education will leave them unprepared as they move into higher forms of education and enter the American work force.
This law has caused the State of Louisiana to face economic pressure through the loss of national educational support as well as the self-removal of many local students and scientists.
We demand that you repeal Louisiana’s creationism law and make sure that Louisiana’s students are getting the education that they deserve.
The Louisiana Science Education Act passed in 2008, it allows for creationism to be taught in public school science classrooms. Creationism is usually taught through supplemental materials that critique scientific facts like evolution and climate change.
Creationism in a religious belief, and in 1987 the Supreme Court ruled the teaching of creationism in schools as unconstitutional. This decision stemmed from the debateEdwards v. Aguillard, which originated in Louisiana. In 2011, New Orleans City Council voted unanimously in support of the bill that would repeal this act. [1]
The young people of Louisiana deserve the best possible scientific education. Creationism is not science, and teaching it as science leaves our students at a disadvantage when competing in the global economy and when they climb to higher forms of education. The LSEA has also impacted the local economy by costing the state important forms of revenue. In 2011 The Society for Integrative and Comparative Biology cancelled its 2011 convention in New Orleans to protest this law.
78 Nobel laureate scientists, including Sir John Edward Sulston and other prominent scientists like Niles Eldredge and Ken Miller have endorsed the repeal of the LSEA. Support for its repeal has also been vocalized by many of the nation’s major science and education organizations.
The teaching of Creationism is inextricably linked to religious faith, which creates a discriminatory environment for students who do not have similar beliefs.
Whether you believe in creationism or evolution, if you are concerned about the education of our future leaders please sign this petition to repeal LSEA now.

This was about the time last year when Planned Parenthood and susan komen had their thing start up fiercely and it was about the time I realized that I was in my own so called bubble…I just did not know people cared about abortion today and woman’s rights if you will…which tend to all be about birth control, etc…I did not know they were issues today…so to speak….and then we had an entire primary and an election based with that as the focal points…it was wild to me and so I guess i need to be heard…this thing here, the sustainable action network growing huge in the last year, and then Ram Phan will be out sooner than later this year….its been cool…

In an interview with pal Ann Coulter on this week’s broadcast of his show “Real Time” on HBO, host Bill Maher made a quip about MSNBC during a discussion of Mitt Romney and the media.
ANN COULTER, guest: Yeah, you’re watching MSNBC and I would not trust them to give you the truth.
BILL MAHER, HBO “Real Time” host: I’m watching people speak English on the debates. I’m just watching English.
COULTER: They’re watching MSNBC too, and that’s why you don’t know what Mitt Romney believes because the motto of MSNBC is ‘In Other Words,’ and they’ll tell you what they think Romney believes. That’s why people liked him so much in the debates because they saw him and he said the same thing, and I supported him in 2008. I ran off with a biker. I came back to him and there’s only one thing he has ever flipped on.
MAHER: did an interview with Ted Koppel recently. He was asking because he did one with you the day before or something. I told him, I said, ‘If I watch MSNBC all day, I want to marry Ann Coulter and join the Tea Party.’ So, I know what you’re saying.
