Wildlife could suffer if these unnecessary border security measures are enacted.

(Won’t you come out to play?)The wildlife that inhabit and migrate across our nation’s southern border continue to face constant threats.
Now the Senate Judiciary Committee is considering provisions in the current immigration bill that would expand authority for the Department of Homeland Security to ignore environmental protections when building various types of security infrastructure through sensitive wildlife habitat.
Provisions in this bill also call for the construction of additional border walls, that will damage and sever crucial and sensitive wildlife habitat.
Border security forces already have extensive authority to ignore conservation laws in their operations. These new provisions would add nothing to border security, but will almost certainly harm to the ecology of the region.
If these provisions are approved:
- Wildlife migration corridors will be blocked;
- Erosion and fragmentation will render wild habitat unsuitable for a host of animals;
- Water and air pollution may get worse, affecting wildlife and people.
These measures could impact important wildlife habitats and public lands along the border, including Coronado National Forest and San Bernardino National Wildlife Refuge in Arizona, and Lower Rio Grande Valley National Wildlife Refuge in Texas.
Species like the jaguar, ocelot, jaguarondi and other cross-border wildlife could find their paths blocked and their homes cut into fragments by newly-constructed walls, fences and roads that cut them off from others of their kind.

The group of GOP senators that President Barack Obama invited to dinner Wednesday will include some of his harshest critics, including the top senators pressing him for more information on the September attack in Benghazi, Libya.
A GOP source provided the list of invitees to CNN. The senators are Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, Bob Corker of Tennessee, Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire, John McCain of Arizona, Dan Coats of Indiana, Tom Coburn of Oklahoma, Richard Burr of North Carolina, Mike Johanns of Nebraska, Pat Toomey Pennsylvania, Ron Johnson of Wisconsin, and John Hoeven of North Dakota.

Trey Performs With National Symphony Orchestra At Washington DC’s Kennedy Center
On Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at 8 p.m, Trey Anastasio will join the National Symphony Orchestra (NSO) at the Kennedy Center Concert Hall in Washington, DC. The one-time-only performance, titled NSO Pops: Trey Anastasio, will feature orchestrations of classic Phish songs and solo Anastasio compositions. The concert will be conducted by NSO Principal Pops Conductor Steven Reineke. Tickets to this performance go on sale to the public on Friday, February 15, at 10:00 AM ET. This was about the time last year when Planned Parenthood and susan komen had their thing start up fiercely and it was about the time I realized that I was in my own so called bubble…I just did not know people cared about abortion today and woman’s rights if you will…which tend to all be about birth control, etc…I did not know they were issues today…so to speak….and then we had an entire primary and an election based with that as the focal points…it was wild to me and so I guess i need to be heard…this thing here, the sustainable action network growing huge in the last year, and then Ram Phan will be out sooner than later this year….its been cool…

Phish…Madison Square Garden…NYC…Day Three and New Years Eve…2012/2013 New Years Run!
Remember when you would leave summer camp as a kid and you had that weird pitt in your stomach because you are leaving a group of people where you bonded and spent time with over a few months span of time? Thats how i feel today. i think because this is/was a home town run of shows for all intent and purpose for me, and their were no other shows elsewhere leading up to this MSG run…….This run of shows brought out a star studded group of people with every walk of Phish head coming out of the word work to get to these shows. There was so much to work up to the show and then like the drop of a dime, its done.
Lets rehash this since I had no time to do any work yesterday.
The 30th was an odd night for me because i was down in the west section basically solo all night. The 5 other people with me, were all in East. I went to east for the beginning of the show and that lasted about three chords or what was 3 seconds time during the runaway Jim before I bolted back up to the West Section. I lost my key spot which is fine.
I was thinking for some reason that I am very curious to know how bands like Widespread Panic and even Umphreys McGee, do/did on NYE. Or, my point is that i wonder what their new years runs of shows are like within their own fan base(s). Are they hyped like these shows, but the fact is that now, Umphreys I think would always play their hometown in Chicago, much like the dead did in Oakland and/or Phish does in NYC. But they are playing ATL this year and as i think about this out loud, the rad’s would maybe play Chicago over New Years. Oh No…they played the GAMH…actually..i forget….I forget what city but i am almost positive the Radiators would play in the same city every, however, not their home town. Same with Phish i guess….and technically the same goes with the GD….Widespread i think has played where they do now or at least in the same city, forever now, but do these bands have gala festivities (aka gags as phish people call it) at midnight? Is there a theme at midnight like the GD did because back in 1982/83, at my first new years show, i had a revelation at midnight with the band. that got me up another level because i had only been used to them playing shows with no production besides the instruments, but also then at midnight in 1982, I was like holy cow….this is like Guy Lombardo but its the dead when they played Sugar Mag that year at midnight. The GD would also have volleyball tournaments at their new years shows. The teams were picked by states. Last night, there was a chess board on top of the astro turfed floor (Only night with turf) which was to resemble grass. There were trees and lights on stage with some rows of what looks like that kitty grass in those squared containers….on top of the amps or whatever they have stacked on the stage and/or maybe there was a set of two of these kitty grass things on or near pages piano….But the set up again, is to resemble some type of resort or country club i suppose is the real theme…and/or playing golf therefore making this a set for a golf course but the chess game on the floor kinda took away the thought that we were on some set of a golf course…..Ok but gain, do those other bands play three sets? I know what further does because I get reports from people that go to those shows in SF, but I dont count further anymore as a viable music act that will be around for your kids, kids to hear on the radio. I think further should give into that fact that they are an AC band or a AAA (Triple A) band just like say james taylor, Hootie and those mellow rock bands, etc….they should get radio play in those formats and get their new material into a film and on TV shows. They have songs that can get on the radio today and that could do well with licensing. But anyone attached to them are clueless wonders about how to deal. I also think they have no reason to care (they have plenty of money today and for a few life times) about making money. The biggest problem of not being good at it in the jam band world, is that in many cases with jam bands, it would not be in their best interest if that drug X was wiped off the planet earth. Some of them would have no fans. Whatever (first most hated word used by people, in 2012…lets try for it again in 13)…who cares about any other band quite frankly right now…other than phish….actually if you read what i said about day two or day one i should say with the people complaining, etc….that show on the 30th answered those pleas, because this night on the 30th, compared to the night before on the 29th, was much different in a big way. This night was very edgy with serious jams not for the faint of heart whereas that other night was song driven or driven by songs in some way (See here (http://sunsetdaily.wordpress.com/2012/12/30/phish-madison-square-garden-nyc-day-one-day-two-20122013-new-years-run/)). I am not sure how I can best describe it, but I can say that I maintain that there was an edge musically, and same goes with the crowd, the security, etc…and yeah…with the band at the show on the 30th.
I am thinking that for me, carini was where I thought the show picked up. The Down With Disease had to be about twenty minutes because I forgot what song we were in and also, I thought that (Harry) Hood was one of the better ones i have seen in a long time. I am not sure why i feel that way but i did say that to myself as they were cranking it out….i know I was grooving by then on the 30th…but it did take me a long time to get into a groove and I now remember why…I had no bud, and again, I was blocked from being able to get to the people that I came with to the show. My other phriends were never coming this particular night but at the same time, I kinda sorta met people which was cool, but as far as bonds between us, I got nothing really coming out of this show…..regardless, I also thought that backwards had a great jam and i know people around me, were going nuts dancing to it, but again, for me…I thought the jam was fine and I felt like he was pushing his way through the verses and chorus. Dont get me wrong now please because i marvel at how they remember the lines of these songs at shows, i am just saying it seemed like he may have been trying hard rather than being able to fall into that effortless mode….
Honestly, thats all i basically remember about that show. I think it picked up during some point in the second set and as i think about the first set on the 30th, I dunno man…Runaway Jim…and thats all I got for now…I am gonna get the downloads soon. These guys staying with me want do some sightseeing in NYC which is easy once you get into the city. But getting up to NYC proved to be hard on the 30th. It took three hours to get through that traffic and slow driving up the Turnpike. Rookie Mistake and the same goes with NYE day because we did the train. I thought it was like 20 or 30 minutes time wise to get us to the train; it was a forty minute drive for us that day. However, in a classic “everything happens for a reason” situation, the next train arrived within a mere 20 minutes which gave me the time to get coffee and to get some food. I had nothing to eat till that time of that day. We then also got to ride on this double Decker train with cushy seats that got us to NYC in maybe an hour time. Its not the express that i would take during a normal day of work, but i thought it got to the city faster than fast…I doubt the Carolina crew felt that way because I think they have been in a car for a lot of this trip. Not that hey have admitted to it or even led me to believe thats the case, but i hope its not too much for them.
I happen to have thought that yesterday, the 31st, was a perfect day. Once we got to the city, it was easy to train it down to the WTC. We did walk a bit under ground and on normal street level which was cold, cold, cold. Once we got to the WTC area, we were looking to get to the fountain which we never did because it was a process to do it. And i think you need to deal ahead of time. However, we start taking pix of the newly built building only to then walk up about 15 feet passed a building that had been blocking what is the REAL freedom Tower. We were taking pix at first, of some random building adjacent to this new 9/11 area. It was phunny i suppose but we did get to walk around the grounds and to the fire place that lost a bunch of people on 9/11. I think there was way too much hustle and bustle and it was way too cold to get emotional because i did not feel sad per se…i just marveled that at one time i would start my cancer bike ride around the city in this one area in between the ya know..old buildings and thats basically inside the 9/11 remembrance memorial over the fence in between it and the street…That was my only real surreal moment and the ONLY other time i had been down at the wtc, there was nada but the fountain which was opened to the public that week…. And, then we cabbed it over to Joes even though I was trying to hit this place I would go to every day, but i had no clue what name of the pizzeria so we ended up at Joes. that was also quintessential Pizza for the guys (Cat (the lone girl) was sick and went to rest to get revved up for show) and it was good….i mean of course good, in that gross way where grease and whatnot are considered to be good…..Walking over to the east side towards Astor Place was cool (no pun intended) because I did get to see some of the buildings i used to go into back in the 90s when i did classes in school at stern. Believe it or not, but as we walked through Washington Square park, music was in the air and I then realize after walking right by it in the dark, was some dude playing this baby grand piano just below the arch at the 5th Avenue entrance. How the hell does he get this down in the park and fundamentally too, its freezing outside….Also, another antidote about taking these guys on the historic tour in NYC….we were only asked one time if we wanted anything drug wise…while in the park…although that was out of the two people working or slinging in that park at that time. It was not busy or peak times i dont think but again…its cold out to be selling anything outside without heaters…i do NOT know how these people deal….more power to it considering our capitalist society….
We then train-ed it up and over to the Rock from Astor. The tree and the skating rink at the rock, were totally trippy with the lights, with the festive atmosphere that was in the air and with these huge projections of some type of graphic that were being shown on the Saks or Bloomeys edifice wall. That was so cool for me to see at night. I never see this stuff. And then getting a cab to get us back down to the garden Party was rather hilarious in that comic relief sort of way. We were in the middle of what was the outskirts by one avenue, of the crowd at the Ball dropping in Times Square. Finally, after 5 blocks of walking through huge crowds of people, we get the cab to get us away from that particular crowd, and we get to the Garden rather easily and at the perfect time to meet the rest of our people.
It was easy getting our group to the spot where i was the other few nights while bridging the gap between some other people we know from shows, and also with two people that i had just met before MH and GY got down to me. While looking around at the familiar faces, I say to myself that I have this great feeling that the tolls of partying this week, in what I think could have been shit ways, took its toll on some people which sux. Chix were crying…couples were walking away and chasing each other angrily before the show….Lets hope that came about Ok for them…I am sure any E done could help that for at least a few more hours until it wears off but ya know…it does suck when shit gets weird in that way…but or because yup….I’ve been there in that same way at shows. And speaking of being in coke driven fights with a spouse or woman I should say at shows way back in da day, and, adding to my very odd week at being at these shows, the good friend of the woman in one of my more volatile and dumb ass relationships showed up at the break (or maybe she was there first set, but i did not put together who she was in my life, until some point in middle of set. And after she borrowed some things from me to use amongst her people).
It was not horrible considering and so far….I am very surprised at the two situations that came into my life, that are both attached to that “other” situation. I think what happens at first is that they get a little psyched or some positive thingy about me is in their heads (because i never know if i am gonna get a right fist to the face, or a hey….how are you these days? Said to me in a kind way….). maybe as they see how I am in this environment and how i am towards my inner circle, and/or towards the people that surround me because anyone in my life today, are true phriends of mine,. and considering i only puff..i am sure it shows compared to when the days when i knew these people….But then I think what happens is that a few songs go by…or a few minutes goes by us….either someone reminds them about some antic I pulled off back then, or they remember how i can be towards people that have tried, and/or that are capable of fucking me over in any way. Because in both situations, it was inviting at first and then not so much afterward….but then again, if i walked across any of those peoples faces, i would not know who it is off the top of my head. I had to think hard how the hell i recognized her after she borreed our things….i realized whom it was and that she may have lost some weight since i last saw her like ten years ago or whatever it was time wise….But, man, that lost weekend of three years really sucked in every way. I dont even think it was that fun because even the fun was paid for in the most shady ways. i cant even believe i was part of that world and moreover, that i was thriving at it….i was so caught up in the dumbest things in life….besides the chick factor which prolly is why i let myself get loopy those years, but…all other issues were done so half assed and also, it was a total birds of a feather situation that i was caught up in that proved to be nada but less than a waste of time….less…it was not even a waste..it was less than a waste that i had to clean my self out of….My name and reputation is mauled in that scene and because of these certain years….which is fine….considering i dont reap off jam band scene in any way, but the fact is that i use it as my outlet to my regular life….and i help set the tone for everyone to be able to do what they do today…by trudging myself through real tour on the road before touch of grey broke….which is really when this hit mainstream but i knew back in the 80s that they were creating an entire style of music…i just did not have vision to refer to it as a jam band scene…i thought other bands would emulate the GD….regardless of what it was like to do real tour was like pre mid 80s….is that these people that I had been enthrusted upon those modern years (the wasted ones), all need each other to be in this great group…which did feel good in some way but it was based on a bond that was not real when all was said done….. But as that happens every time when shit drugs are involved in creating these so called bonds in these large groups….it comes to a head so to speak and i am talking about 100% of the time, it will implode on em/everyone…which sucks more because that tends to mean things are not that great or some shady thing went down, etc…leaving everyone back to being way below their real values in life, from where they were in the first places….as an individual trying to make things good in this hard society…..by them…i am talking about me….or what went down in my life…..And, what happens is that leaves me to wonder if Ill ever like people again and/or like I used to love people. And/or how i would want to bring certain people together and especially at shows. I would love to watch magic happen at a show. But then when i say that sentence here out loud, I see thats a self serving MO…..However, Anyway…for that to happen in life, its all gotta be working on all cylinders and in every way. The Music…The people…Where you are in venue…Having no idiots around you which you cant seem to control and I would go so far to say that some of the same people calling other people douches when talking about space issues, are douches themselves when it comes to infringing on other peoples space.
I don’t even think there was one flaw in my life yesterday. And, if there was a mishap in it, it was for a reason like in the case where we got to ride this cool train compared to the rickety ones that I am used to in NJ. The sightseeing excursion went perfectly yesterday. Any stress about where we would sit on the floor at the new years show was done because we had the perfect spot. And, we had the perfect crew around us with barriers set as picks to not allow anyone to pass by or interrupt our groove in any way.
The music from beginning to the end of the show was the most perfect for us.
I loved every song they played and i would go so far to say that jammed out Alaska which is how well they played last night. I forget what they played right now but let me think about it or maybe lemme look at a set list. Getting old fucking sux….Oh yeah and Possum was great too but also…in the crowd….this group of people somehow choreographed setting off these streamers at all of the times they do this one stoppage or riff to stop in that song. that was festive but again…lemme think now…Oh duh..they opened the show with Garden Party, the Ricky nelson song. As you all know, I worked with his cousin or maybe it was his niece at one of my old jobs. Second set may have come up a bit short but don’t hold me to that one because anything done on NYE, is never enough for us. but there was a character Zero to end the set, played after something (maybe Weekapaug (Groove)) which was preceded also by Mikes (Song) of course which then went into something off the beaten track???? I can’t remember the song they played after mikes and before weekapaug…Oops (remember Rick Perry’s Oops in that GOP primary).
OK. So then we have the second set to go which started after a short break taken in between the two sets. There was still a lot of time left before the clock hit the stroke at midnight. There were golf carts on top of the stage and there are people hitting ping pong balls marked with the word China, and NOT Phish, (I STAND CORRECT BECAUSE LOOK AT WHAT THE FUCK I JUST FOUND TODAY WHEN DOING A SEARCH FOR POSTERS: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Phish-golf-ball-from-MSG-on-NYE-12-31-2012-2013-Not-poster-or-pin-/110996275107?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19d7e4bfa3) and heres another one (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Phish-Golf-Ball-12-31-2012-2013-MSG-New-York-NYE-Trey-Patch-Poster-Pin-/261149872926?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3ccdbed31e)).
We just never got any of the golf balls hit towards us but i did get a beach ball (which sme dude is already selling at ebay (I never thought about people selling these things i would never get rid of….) (http://www.ebay.com/itm/PHISH-NYE-INFLATABLE-GOLF-BALL-2012-2013-Poster-Pin-Magnet-MSG-/281045773476?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item416fa22ca4)) with that same exact design….shit man…i missed out on getting any balls….with the phish msg logo on it…..) into the crowd from the stage.
I have no clue who these people are on stage. but then came Birds Of A Feather, which was also perfect in a couple ways…musically…it was played great and from a socio POV, there were people in my area after day one, that no doubt thrive best when in groups of people, opened the set. Then ghost into Piper…both were great too but then the 2001 was over the top because that was some serious music…I was grooving like madd at that point in the show and so was everyone I could see in that arena. The energy was through the roof and more honestly, its because of the music being played so well and thats the deal. It got to the point where you could not, NOT dance if you tried to set yourself down in any way. Which does not happen alot in life.
More golf carts were rolling around the stage and I am gonna assume they will get back on stage maybe near 1145PM. I think they came back on earlier than 1145, regardless of what time they started the third set, Party time was cool but ya know….Its not exactly the hardest of songs to play…I was in hope of it being Cars, Trucks and Buses (thats what i thought it was at first) since we took those lanes on the Jersey Turnpike the day before last night. Kung needed to be done at this time because what better song to play right now (not now but at that time…)…plus they get to say the golf carts are running away which plays into the overall gag theme….And, at the same time you can monitor the ticking down on the clock as we got us closer to midnight without the need of absolute concentration to get through a real song…(you know…structured song with melodies…or kung is not considered to be the standard for songwriting which i love that innovativeness if thats a word in this context…i dont know what I am saying but ill just fall back on saying….whatever….for the third time used by me in 13…….)….This way also…they can just make those words play with the distorted music until they are ready for this new years Eves…gala festivity. But this band tends to enter NYE’s midnight in the middle of a song (aka a jam) or maybe not always because i can’t remember how they dealt back in the 90s. They may have done tweezer beginning at midnight that one year..or i dunno..ill have to check that out but the countdown at Phish tends to begin in the middle of a jam (The GD would start a song from beginning after every gala festivity with Bill Graham dressed as father Time doing the countdown after he got to the stage from whatever themed float was those years). Kung got the band ready to rip through Chalkdust and then the countdown into midnight’s gala festivity….Which kind of reminded me of the one two years ago with the craziness everywhere all over the stage….tonight, the once near naked girls and the black dudes that danced in that cirque de so le sort of way, were now dressed up along side of a bunch of other theatrical people hired for this “gag,” as county club members. Chalkdust jammed us into Tweezer Reprise (with the aulds lang syne jam in there too) and then as sand started, all of us looked at each to say, “why not?” Especially since when all is said with that song and no matter what 12 bar thing thats attached to the depth of the song, they do jam it out in the most grooving ways. I actually love hearing Sand and I like songs like Gibboo which a lot people hate, but when they crank it, its a sick groove that I love feeling inside of me.
The Wedge was good…They lost it on the vox which happens a lot on this song. its hard to sing and to get to those notes let alone to sustain them 100% of that song. I love the Wedge and I dunno..Fly Like An Eagle which I heard right away but the fact is that I did not really like that song in 1977 or whatever year, i am not really into hearing it now. At the same time, I did start bopping to it by the time the third verse came but its because of Treys guitar work. He can make Auld Lang Syne sound intense like he did in between chalkdust and Reprise….but then on the Scoreboard raised way up high hanging down from the roof at the Garden, was an animated graphic of a Golf Ball with the Wilson Sports logo on it. That was used to orchestrate the crowds participation to get the song started after setting it up with a quick guitar riff, that could be a blend with some bass too but that starts this song with the phans yelling the word, Wilson. They end that set with what I believe is a first, is/was them doing an a cappella version of Lawn Boy.
Now…the encore(s) started appropriately with the song Driver. No matter the context of the song, the Golf theme which BTW…did you know about the theory or conspiracy or rumor that the band was using the MSG acronym, and playing songs at midnight based on each of those letters…(i.e.: Meatstick two years ago, Steam last year and Gamehenge…Golgi….Golf….I suppose was the G this year)..and so the rationale today is that i am hearing is that the word Golf was the G in that MSG acronym which I denounce its merit right here and right now…golf is NOT parallel to a song and the m and the s are songs…the g is a sport. Think of it this way. make pretend you are taking the ETS test like an SAT or GMAT…You know that Q that asks what does NOT belong…Golf would be the one in that group so i don’t buy it.
Now the HI rumor coming to reality would be nice but at the same time, I am not sure how to gauge those vacation excursions when bands play live….I love doing tours over seas because i can site see in big cities by day/…have something to do at night and what a better night time activity than seeing the GD or Phish as i have done in my life….And, off days can be ones where you go out into the country because we drove on 90 GD tour all over Europe…it was great….Anyway…obviously, playing on boats and on some island or in secluded tropical areas of the world is not a way to gain new phans, but i am not sure if thats a goal or if its just to have this party in some sweet part of the world. My problem with it is the playing….And, me wanting to be at shows after skiing on a mountain, or if you surf in the ocean and there is also a show at night, most times I would wanna chill by a fire or in a beach house passed out beat from that recreation but more power to the excursions and shows at em…i am sure its great for socializing between jam band heads….
What am i saying…i actually did experiance that one back in like 2002, in cabo…I saw with janes and these techno acts like C. Method….was fun…wait a sec….i thought of another excursion type thats not really tropical, but still….what about playing in amsterdam…its an excursion place in other ways and not that huge of a market for live music unless you can play stadiums….it would be cool to play in that city…but the problem is that every show there is a bust (I don’t know about the modern day ones with mike and moe, etc…the phish and the dead ones at he mik weg sucked)…They blow it/em…..its because they eat space cakes which is so stupid…same with the VT family show when the fairilly brother production and people from some movie set, served brownies that they ate pre show….why would anyone want to play while wasted on space cakes…you can not play well while on space cakes…you will be lazy and whats the word? “Lethargic” while on space cakes. I dont get…but…whatever….(another time used in 13)…. I happen to NOT like bud mixed with any other components. The sugar, etc…tweaks my head. Another and last antidote about those excursion things is that its another birds Of A Feather situation where people may need to be part of some group. Its great for them, but anyway…back to me….what a monumental week. I got a bit of everything which i like and the time away from politics and my industries, was well needed at this time. Although, the thought of embarking on 2013 is not at the forefront of my brain just yet…I need a day off from my days off. And, the people in politics just annoy the fuck out of me which you already know too…..
About the ending of the show BTW, for some reason and outta of nowhere; unless i am missing some underlying message here with the song and with its lyrics, the band rips into the Iron man by Black Sabbath and Ozzy. Page’s vox are great for that song. High pitched, etc….When he finished singing the next to last verse, trey soared into this fast sounding ripping jam with his guitar work, that was sick for as long as it lasted which I get you have to cut short, much like Frankenstein or other songs where band members are NOT at their respective instrument(s), where they seem to cut down jam times, but this cranked for a bunch of time…..
Final notes….Train ride and car ride home went fast for me and everyone is now officially on their routes back to their homes. Cousin Joe left for his home in Alaska and same with Michele and George (and the kidz) whom are en route back to pacifica. The three in the NC crew are gone now driving south for a good hour and then Brehon and his chick, are on his flight back to HI. I also met two people from Nashville and I have hope that they will contact me when they settle back into TN….Nadia (cleaning woman) is coming tomorrow and I must clean my car…..
Overall, this week was the best of times, and even though i had that pitt in my belly at the beginning of this being set up today, writing this has helped get rid of that feeling so thanks for allowing it…..I cant proof it BTW…too tired..i think it all pieced together ok…

Neil Young and Crazy Horse diverted their tour a bit to play a benefit for the American Red Cross’ Hurricane Sandy relief effort last night at The Borgata in Atlantic City. In addition to tour openers Patti Smith and Everest, this show also featured a last-minute acoustic set from Phish frontman Trey Anastasio.

Trey Anastasio played a solo acoustic opening set for Neil Young last night, The single-set performance took place at Atlantic City, NJ’s Borgata Event Center and benefited the victims of Superstorm Sandy. The Phish guitarist grew up in Princeton, NJ.
Anastasio’s set focused mostly on Phish songs, including “Back on the Train,” “Wolfman’s Brother,” “Theme From the Bottom,” “Water in the Sky,” “Sample in a Jar,” “Brian and Robert” and “Chalk Dust Torture.” He also performed “Let Me Lie” and “Architect” from his new studio album Traveler (the latter song was a solo acoustic debut). Anastasio paused a few times during the show to reminisce about seeing Crazy Horse and dedicated “ “Water in the Sky” to his wife Sue. Anastasio’s set came to a close with “Backwards Down the Number Line,” a song which began its life as an acoustic duet with Mike Gordon at Rothbury in 2008.
To the disappointment of many, Anastasio did not sit in with Neil Young & Crazy Horse during their feedback-heavy show. Young mostly stuck his standard fall setlist, but he did include “Rockin’ In The Free World,” which he’s only played a festival-style events like Bridge School Benefit and Global Citizens Festival fall. The evening ended with an appropriate run through “Like a Hurricane,” another song Young has only played a handful of times in 2012.

Live Nation announced on Wednesday, Dec. 5, that Trey Anastasio, of Phish, will also perform at the Thursday, Dec. 6 Neil Young & Crazy Horse special benefit concert at the Borgata, billed as “A Special Evening With Neil Young & Crazy Horse.”
According to a press release, “Anastasio will perform a solo acoustic set at the concert. The New Jersey native, who is a founding member of Phish, has been touring in support of his ninth solo album,Traveler, which he recorded in Connecticut with co-producer Peter Katis.”

ATLANTIC CITY, NEW JERSEY — Neil Young and his long-time band Crazy Horse will perform a special benefit concert on Thursday, Dec. 6, at the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City, it was announced Thursday morning.
The proceeds from the show — tickets ($75 and $150) go on sale Nov. 30 at 10am — are going to aid victims of Superstorm/Hurricane Sandy.
Devastated by the damage and displacement caused by hurricane, Young urged:
“Come on down here and join in the relief effort.”
On Sunday, Dec. 2, Young said that although his current tour was supposed to end in Connecticut on Tuesday, that he felt the need to do something to “make a difference” to the people along the East Coast affected by Sandy.
“I couldn’t see coming back here and just playing and have it be business as usual,” he said.
Young also said that although he was invited to perform at the 12-12-12 benefit concert in New York City, he had other obligations.
“It wasn’t going to make much difference whether I was there or not, so I decided to go someplace where I could make a difference,” he said.
Proceeds will go directly to the American red Cross Hurricane Sandy Relief Effort.

All seating is general admission. The great band Everest opens the show. Neil Young and Crazy Horse are expected to play for about two hours, a set that could include Young’s classic “Like a Hurricane.”
“Anything’s possible,” Young said Sunday. “We have the equipment.”
Crazy Horse, which is Young, Billy Talbot, Ralph Molina, and Poncho Sampredo, has been touring North America in support of its latest album Psychedelic Pill.

Phish Frontman Trey Anastasio Gives Out Supplies To Hurricane-Hammered Red Hook Residents

The Hurricane Sandy recovery efforts in Red Hook, Brooklyn continued yesterday, and it was heartening to see an abundance of volunteers and emergency supplies pouring into the waterfront neighborhood. Outside the flooded 158-year-old Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, volunteers distributed blankets, food, and clothing to beleaguered hurricane victims, who received a little extra help from Phish frontman Trey Anastasio.
Anastasio and his wife pulled up to the church yesterday afternoon with bags of diapers, Fluffhead and batteries, and handed them out along the line of people waiting for supplies. The guitarist told us that a friend of his lives in Red Hook, and “his house is under water. I’ve spent the day helping him, pulling out dry wall. It’s really bad here. Really bad.” 120 volunteers had showed up to help at the church, which had begun directing would-be volunteers elsewhere.
Most homes in Red Hook showed less structural damage than in places like Far Rockaway and Staten Island, but the flood damage was extensive, and as of Sunday thousands were still without power. Fortunately, there was no shortage of volunteers eager to help; at the Red Hook Recovery Volunteer Effort, a line of volunteers wrapped around the corner, and organizers scrambling to coordinate transportation to get them to other parts of New York City. Some retail establishments had reopened—the wine shop Botta di Vino was offering free internet, cell phone charging, and warmth to anyone and everyone; and Baked, Hope & Anchor were also open for business. “Acupuncturists Without Borders” were also offering free acupuncture.
IKEA, which got through Sandy without a scratch (its ground floor is parking, so no flooding damaged the merchandise), was also busy yesterday, and the retailer said it had been donating supplies to The Red Hook Initiative. And on November 12th and 13th, IKEA will hold a hiring event for displaced Red Hook residents. It’s expected that the need for volunteers will increase during the week, as many New Yorkers return to work, so if you’re interested in helping, here’s a good place to start.

Trey co-produced the album with Peter Katis (The National, Interpol, Jonsi) last fall in Katis’ Tarquin Studios in Bridgeport, CT. Along with Trey Anastasio Band, Katis invited several artists to work with them, including Mates of State’s Kori Gardner, The National’s Bryan Devendorf and Matt Berninger, Rob Moose, and Icelandic percussionist Samuli Kosminen.
Available in both LP and CD formats, the LP is pressed on gold colored 180 gram vinyl and comes with a bonus Traveler vinyl 7″ (which includes the bonus track “Greyhound Rising”) as well as a download card for an MP3 version of the album.

It’s been almost a year since we heard about the U.S. Forest Service’s plan to allow oil and gasdrilling in the Upper Hobackregion of the Wyoming Range, but the wait was well worth it. We learned on Friday that PXP, the oil company proposing to drill 136 new wells in a critical wildlife corridor, agreed to sell their leases and forego the project entirely!
This is a major victory for the broad coalition known as The Citizens for the Wyoming Range, which has been battling the environmentally damaging proposal for more than a year and a half. With the help of the Trust for Public Land, the coalition negotiated a buyout of all of PXP’s existing drilling leases throughout the entire Bridger-Teton National Forest, and the leases will be retired forever. That means the myriad species that use the forest–deer, elk, moose, bears, bobcats, pronghorn antelope, lynx and more–can finally breathe a sigh of relief.
Defenders played an important role in raising awareness of the disastrous drilling proposal. By sending out alerts to our members, we were able to help generate more than 60,000 comments in opposition to the proposal. Further, Defenders expert David Gaillard led an independent effort to document wildlife that travel through the Upper Hoback region. He set up remote cameras to photograph all the species that would be at risk of losing vital habitat if drilling was allowed to occur. The (Amazing) Race Recap….
OK. I am caught up with the race although i did not see the first part of the end of the episode number one. I no doubt love the chix from India and i line the couple from TX and with treys name equal…I had to like to the woman with no legs but i think they gave up number one spot in episode one. I question their eye of the tiger and so its fine they are gone although I did think they would have gone way further and there are plenty of more teams that suck worse than these two….They seemed like they deserved to be in there more than say…the monster truck guy which they suck..and they are idiots and annoying and the dude boned his best friends wife. And, married her so screw them and i don’t care about the whether the guy died or not…I know that i would not want the defined thing where i will know i was second in that woman’s life. Pretty lame but also…i wanna hate the Chippendales guys but i think they just annoy the shit outta me…but I think they have good hearts…I really do but again..that ones vox are fucked…the gays as they say are mince soon and especially for getting cocky after coming in like 8th place this week..the lil guy yelled that they will win or some weird thing but they are not that great at this game…and the blondies are two I wanna like and in defense of them so far…I do put them up as my third fav’s but then again..i saw next weeks previews and they lose it…so I have to not care about them…Oh and what the hell is abba and the “rock star” as he boasts and lemme tell you that if you have to describe your self that way..you are are NOT a rock star by any real means of that term and what real rock star would ever do this game in 8 million years..the point of being of a rock star is to make more money than you can handle while doing nothing….anyway…im glad I did get caught with it….
