Would you sign a petition to get paid less money?

While the question seems absurd, you may be (or have already been) asked to do this by Pandora radio, which is seeking to lower its payments to those who create the music that drive its business. Pandora’s “letter of support” is being circulated as they prepare to embark on another legislative effort to reduce royalties to featured artists, session musicians and producers.

Just two months ago, Pandora’s CFO stated, “The rates that we pay are statutory rates that are fixed, they are set in stone through 2015. Based on those rates, we are confident we can build a really good company…It’s all about monetization.”

We agree. So why is Pandora telling Congress it needs to lower its payments (already a tenth of a penny per play) to artists?

In a letter sent to artists, Pandora says it wants to speak for “working musicians” in Washington. But they know you already have a voice in Washington. Just a few weeks ago, hundreds of Academy members made their voices heard loud and clear at GRAMMYs on the Hill, telling Congress to protect fair wages to creators. With all due respect to Pandora, we do not need Wall St. media companies speaking for music creators.

Alternative Psychedelic rockers Cosmic Punch will release Clay Pit Road, their debut CD for Sunset Records on April 16.On

Clay Pit Road, you can hear thick, colorful bass lines that synchronize with a heavy yet melodic guitar sound with some great harmonies creating a loud sound. Produced, engineered, mixed and mastered by Juan “Punchy” Gonzalez in the Mango, Florida area, the rest of CD (Drums, etc.) was recorded at the world famous Abbey Road Studios in London, England. Featuring Ryan Michalski on vocals, coupled with Juan Gonzalez, they make up Cosmic Punch, quintessential psychedelia rock music for the modern era. The full length nine (9) song CD entitled Clay Pit Road, is now being set for an April 16, 2013 release date with Sunset (Records).

Cosmic Punch‘s enticing fusion of genres has been called “neo-psychedelia” and the band’s abstract reach with some heavy rock influences and an natural grooves to drift towards modern day psychedelia with its accessible lyrics on every song, it is a mind-expanding sound throughout the entire CD. The duo grew up listening classic rock, surf rock, grunge rock, alternative rock and anything with psychedelic melodies! The CD has something for all music fans with its hints of grunge, much like Tripping Daisy’s sound back in that early 90s era. And then add to it some heavy guitars, incredible harmonies, with a surf rock vibe and you get what is a big sounding psych band with some unique touches in every song, that should keep the band around for many albums and for a long music career.

Overall, Cosmic Punch’s debut album is a colorful collaboration by musicians Ryan Michalski and Juan “Punch” Gonzalez. Fisher Gets Funked Up at Sunset!

Sunset (Records) is set to release the funk rock and jazz influenced debut Fisher CD, The Fligumwompf Satchel!

Fisher is not only one of the accomplished musicians in the funk rock music scene today; he is also one of the deepest thinking musicians when it comes to his craft. The debut album by Fisher has been available on a minimal level, by the band, and the label (Sunset Records) has begun to set up this debut full length CD, for a worldwide release to stores and outlets distributed to by the Indie record label.

On April 9th, the popular Philadelphia rocker releases The Fligumwompf Satchel CD which is a jazz, funk, rock based album recorded with some of the top music artists in the Philly area. His (Fisher) band has a horn section with Chris Aschman on Trumpet, Ian O’Beirne on Saxophone and Jerred Antonacci and Paul Arbogast both play Trombone, along with other veteran players like drummers Andy Meyer and Roy Cole, bassists James Cooper and Kevin McLaughlin (Concord Road), keyboardists Terry DeAngelo and Anam Owili Eger and then Brian Tobianski plays on Synths and Percussion for the band and ensemble that worked on the CD. Fisher enhances the classic jazz and funk music scene today. What is an improvisational album produced by Brian Tobianski, and was recorded over a period of ten days at an Ohio based recording studio and production facility. The goal for the label (Sunset Records) is to keep things fresh, new and alive with this bright sounding album. The bands influences are with bands like Sly and the Family Stone, James Brown and Parliament, with hints of connectivity to the likes of Bob Marley, Pink Floyd, Grateful Dead, Burning Spear and even an classical Indian and world music sound. The label’s commitment to the overall sense of direction and sound is evident by the freshness, and upbeat feel from the first song to the last one on the CD.

The album comes with a very special bonus “Rehearsal Recording” of the “Waves and Walls” song, and fans of funk-jazz-rock will be very excited to add this new CD to their collections. Kevin Hart To Host Saturday Night Live Tonight!

‘SNL’ behind the scenes: Kevin Hart explains why this show’s bigger than the VMAs

Here’s what you won’t see on Saturday Night Live this weekend: the boxes Kevin Hart will stand on in order to make his small stature look a little less diminutive. (Hart’s only 5’4″.) “I’ve been deceiving a lot of people, which is fun,” the comedian jokes in this video from NBCUniversal Direct. “It’s lying! Television lies. That’s what it is.”

This, however, isn’t a lie — Hart thinks doing SNL is a bigger deal than hosting MTV’s Video Music Awards. “For astandup comedian, this is what we live for. This is what we want,” he explains. “So [the] VMAs was amazing, but this definitely surpasses that.”

We’ll see whether Hart’s hosting debut measures up to his VMA performance in just a few days. In the meantime, make do with this brief interview — filmed yesterday while Hart was in the midst of preparing for Saturday night:

Sunset Urban signs three new acts this week, through a production and distribution deal with Capella Entertainment.

JL, Raynita J and Taya Jae’ and Cappella to release their albums this year with Sunset (Urban).

 

New Jersey rap sensation Jonell “Jl Makin Movies” Brown professionally know simply as JL, is starting to create a major buzz with his leaked first single, “Drop It Low.” The song also features hiphop artist, VeeA along with other label mate and rapper, Taya Jae.’ The latter named artist will be working in the studio starting this month to complete her full length album slated for release this year with the newest Staff A&R Producer now working with Sunset (Urban), Anthony Ratliff, at the studio he founded in north Virginia just outside of Washington DC. LiveWire, JL’s upcoming debut album is being set up for late April / May or springtime release to stores all over the world. The music video and the first single (“Drop It Low”) are already being promoted at places that play music videos and at major radio stations all over the world. Raynita J, the third of the Capella signings to Sunset (Urban) is a Neo Soul R&B artist that also recorded at the world world renowned Capella Studios.

“We’re excited to kill many birds with one stone so to speak, to not only have closed this deal with Anthony (Ratliff) and his production company to release such young talent like JL, Taya (Jae’) and Raynita (J) to the Sunset family,” said Don Lichterman, the head of Sunset. “Sunset Urban is proud to be one of the top Indy labels keeping to hip-hop’s roots, while at the same time, growing to be the colorful record label with one goal in life; to develop to break new artists.” (Don) Lichterman continues to say that Capella’s first release with JL, is the strong and innovative music we want at Sunset Urban.” “We are very excited to start working his music, and we are looking to merely expand on the basis of the already huge buzz Anthony and his team has built leading up tome hearing that song.”

Capella Recording Studios opened its doors officially in 2006. The studio has vastly grown to provide the world of music and recording industry impeccable productions with his great sound quality recordings and the studio provides rehearsal spaces for artists doing pre production or for music artists ready to hit the road to go on tour. The studio was founded by Anthony Ratliff, who (Don) Lichterman is now calling a Sunset Urban A&R Staff Producer. (Anthony) Ratliff is an accomplished musician while racking up more than 20 years of experience doing production and engineer work. His (Anthony Ratliff) state-of-the-art Capella Recording Studios is located just outside of Washington DC, is a facility that has large rooms, large recording area with very comfortable lounge areas allowing anyone in that recording process, to feel right at home comfortable as can be during any recording.

Sunset is looking to hire staff people this year and (Don) Lichterman says that he is “very slow to hire” and that “working people into my system this way as an Staff A&R Producer will prove to make things as fail safe as things can be in such a situation while it also will grow loyalties between all of us in very natural ways.” Capella has already shown the ability to deliver three (3) top music acts to the label that will all be released this year.

Fisher, from Philadelphia and Sunset’s (Records) latest signing this month, is setting up the already recorded CD entitled, “The Fligumwompf Satchel,” for an April 9th official street day.

The jazzy funk rock band has fast become a popular band around the Philadelphia area with current airplay at WXPN and the band plays live at the top places around Philadelphia (World Music Cafe, The Blockey, The Legendary JC Dobbs, more). The band is planning to record another studio slated for release by summer or fall time this year.

The Second Cooler is a documentary about illegal migration shot primarily in Alabama, Arizona, and northern Mexico. The premise is that Arizona is the new Alabama—the epicenter of an intense struggle for migrant justice. The documentary’s purpose is to bring basic migration issues into focus. Those issues include the impact of free trade agreements on migration, the lack of a legal way for poor Latin Americans to come to the United States, the inherent abuses of the guest worker program, the fact that many migrants are indigenous people, anti-immigrant politics in Alabama, the thousands of migrant deaths at the border, and an escalating ideology of the border.

This was about the time last year when Planned Parenthood and susan komen had their thing start up fiercely and it was about the time I realized that I was in my own so called bubble…I just did not know people cared about abortion today and woman’s rights if you will…which tend to all be about birth control, etc…I did not know they were issues today…so to speak….and then we had an entire primary and an election based with that as the focal points…it was wild to me and so I guess i need to be heard…this thing here, the sustainable action network growing huge in the last year, and then Ram Phan will be out sooner than later this year….its been cool…
